We are actively seeking an enthusiastic Secondary School Biology Science Teacher and Lab Technician specializing in the MYP (Middle Years Programme) of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. This is a temporary position from 03.02.2025-04.07.2025.

The right candidate will also recognise that excellent pastoral care is also essential to student development, and be willing to support this in non-curricular roles such as homeroom teacher or during self directed learning times as an advisor or coach.

Job Responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • Develop and deliver engaging Science lessons aligned with the MYP framework.
  • Foster a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that promotes curiosity and critical thinking.
  • Assess student progress in Science and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary projects and activities.
  • Participate actively in school events, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development activities.
  • Support and promote the school’s ethos
  • Engage students in the effective delivery of the curriculum through excellent subject knowledge and diverse lesson content that reflects the ability and needs of all students in the class
  • Manage classroom behavior to ensure an effective learning environment for all students
  • Support students proactively in reaching their learning and approaches to learning goals
  • To regularly measure, record and share student progress
  • Keep informed about technological innovations that support and drive student outcomes
  • Be familiar with data regarding the academic and pastoral progress of their students
  • Provide Subject Coordinators with class data

  • Be available outside of lessons to support students
  • You will attend the weekly briefings and subject meetings, as well as relevant programme meetings on Tuesdays from 2:45-5:00 pm. 

Lab Technician:

  • Develop and implement efficient working systems and procedures for the new science laboratories and prep room.
  • Streamline processes to ensure smooth operation and organisation of technical resources.
  • Establish an organised equipment and resource ordering system to ensure timely procurement and availability.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all science equipment and resources, tracking usage and condition.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary supplies for experiments and practical lessons.
  • Prepare and deliver experiments and practical materials to teachers, ensuring they have all necessary resources for effective teaching.
  • Collaborate with teachers to align experiments with curriculum requirements, providing valuable support for lesson planning.
  • Uphold and enforce health and safety standards within the science department in line with school, building and German regulations.
  • Assist the Head of Department (HoD) in the execution of health and safety protocols, including safety checks and risk assessments.
  • Take responsibility for the cleanliness and maintenance of the science laboratories, particularly after practical experiments.
  • Ensure that all equipment is properly cleaned, stored, and maintained to a high standard.
  • Ordering of supplies

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • To comply with safeguarding policies, procedures, and code of conduct
  • To demonstrate a personal commitment to safeguarding
  • To engage in safeguarding training when required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education and Science; Master’s degree is advantageous.
  • Teaching certification with a focus on Science and knowledge of the MYP and DP (IB) curriculum.
  • Minimum 2 years proven experience in teaching secondary school Science.
  • In-depth knowledge of the International Baccalaureate curriculum and assessment practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Hours / Allowance:

  • Approximately 10 teaching hours per week and 10 hours per week Lab Technician 
  • Salary according to experience and qualifications
  • You will report to the Subject Coordinator for Science
