Between 5th and 20th October, 10 brave students, exhibiting every bit of the IB learner profile, embarked on an eye opening trip to Ghana to experience the varied cultures of Ghana as well as meet a need by volunteering at the La Future Leaders Community school, Ghana.On this trip, our students got to know and interact with people from different backgrounds, sampled the cultures of Ghana, including some wonderful food!
Through the generosity of the CIS/IFK community, we managed to take several suitcases full of donations of clothes, books, learning materials, etc. THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO THE CIS /IFK COMMUNITY FOR THEIR GENEROSITY!
Over the past 6 years, we have been supporting the Future Leaders build a school. Through your generosity and that of so many other donors and volunteers from several countries, I am glad to say the Future Leaders have built their school now! The pupils and staff of the Future Leaders, Ghana say AYEKOOOO!

– What the most meaningful experience was?
- Going to the Cape Coast Slave Castle because we saw how cruel and horrible the conditions were

- The happiness and hospitality by everyone we met. It didn’t matter if they were old, young, rich or poor

That Ghana is a very beautiful and colourful country with very humble citizens

- How welcoming and happy everyone is and satisfied with their lives

Don’t take anything for granted and happiness comes from your perspectives on life. Focus on what you do have.

In Ghana, everyone has a sense of belonging and each person is seen as a positive contribution to the community.

– What the most meaningful experience was?
- It was visiting the Standard for Life School in the slums of Ashaiman. It was started by a wealthy man who sold everything he had and used the money to help children get an education.

– What surprised them?
- The big differences between people in terms of wealth. It was very visible as it could be slum on one side of the road and big houses, gated communities on the other side.
