IT’S OFFICIAL!

CIS Becomes An IB Continuum School!

Cologne International School is proud to announce its official designation as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum School, offering the full spectrum of IB programmes for students aged 5 – 18: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).

After a rigorous five year process, we received MYP authorization in December, marking a new chapter in our school’s development that underscores our commitment to educational excellence.

We are only the 3rd school in NRW to offer the complete IB Continuum, and the 15th in Germany as a whole.

We are honored to join this distinguished group of schools, offering a world-renowned international educational journey for our students throughout their school career, fostering their development as inquisitive, knowledgeable, and caring young individuals prepared to thrive in a globalized world.

It is important to know in this context that the successful completion of the MYP examinations in Germany is recognized as an equivalent qualification to the Fachoberschulreife (Mittlerer Schulabschluss). Depending on the number of points achieved, it also entitles the holder to attend the “Gymnasiale Oberstufe”. The IB diploma is also recognized as an equivalent qualification to the German Abitur.

For more information about our programmes and admissions, please visit our website. Please visit the official IB Website for more information.

A special thank you to the MYP Coordinators who made this possible: Ms. Ana Srepel, Mrs. Shelly Sachdev, and Mr. Edward Parker.

Amazon Jungle

Throughout February, 2024, 25 of our CIS students embarked on a long journey to the Amazon Jungle in Iquitos, Peru. Students worked hard the previous months to raise funds to be able to create their community service project with the local communities of El Chino in the Tahuayo Region of the Amazon basin. Once there, our 25 students, along with our three teachers and the guides at the lodge they stayed in, participated in a whole day community service project where students built two complete Primary School classrooms. Our students built 20 desks and 20 chairs from scratch with the help of the local community and finished the day by putting the new furniture inside the classrooms. Thanks to this initiative, the students were able to fill up two classrooms that are now providing full day education to the children of the community. At CIS, one of our pillars of excellent education is understanding the privilege that comes with being an IB student and an international school student, and the importance of being global citizens. With this, comes the responsibility of being stewards of the communities that inhabit this world and the importance of giving back and being change makers!
