At Cologne International School, we understand that relocating internationally brings important changes for families. Moving to a new country often means adjusting to a new professional role and finding the right school for your children.
Our school community brings together students from more than 50 nationalities who share similar experiences of living and learning across cultures.
For families working in international organizations in Bonn and the surrounding area, CIS provides a stable academic environment where students can continue their education within a globally recognized framework.
At Cologne International School, students follow the complete International Baccalaureate pathway.
This continuity allows students joining the school to continue their academic journey within the same internationally recognized framework.
Students at CIS consistently achieve strong IB results.
Recent graduates achieved an average IB score of 33, above the global average of 30.2, with a top score of 44 out of 45.
Small class sizes and individual support allow each student to reach their potential.
CIS graduates continue their studies at leading universities around the world.
Recent alumni have attended institutions such as:
Students graduate with both the IB Diploma and a US-accredited High School Diploma, opening pathways to universities in Europe, North America, and beyond.
Our Primary School offers a fully bilingual program, with all subjects taught in English and German, allowing students to develop their German language skills naturally alongside their academic learning.
In Secondary School, instruction continues primarily in English, with German as a core subject, giving students the opportunity to further strengthen their German proficiency while pursuing an international curriculum.
Students at CIS represent more than 50 nationalities, and many families have experienced international relocation. Teachers and staff understand the challenges of transition and help new students settle quickly into school life.
While the academic program is delivered in English, secondary school students also have the opportunity to develop German language skills through our DaF Club, which prepares students for the Goethe Certificate. This allows international students to integrate into life in Germany while maintaining access to global university pathways.
The curriculum encourages international perspectives and cultural awareness. Activities such as Model United Nations, global study trips, and collaborative projects (e.g. Ghana, Madagascar, Peru, etc.)Â connect students with issues and cultures around the world.
At Cologne International School, students learn in a modern campus designed to support both academic focus and personal development. The campus, opened in 2022, provides a learning environment where students can collaborate, explore ideas, and develop the skills needed for an international future.
The CIS campus combines modern architecture with purpose-built learning spaces that support the International Baccalaureate curriculum. Classrooms, laboratories, and collaborative areas are designed to encourage inquiry, discussion, and creativity.
For families seeking additional flexibility, Cologne International School also offers a boarding house that provides a structured and supportive residential environment during the academic year.
CIS promotes the responsible use of technology in learning. Students are encouraged to develop digital literacy while also maintaining strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills. To support focus and healthy habits, CIS is a smartphone-free school for students up to age 16.
The school campus is located in the greater Cologne region, approximately a 30-minute drive from Bonn. This proximity allows families based in Bonn to access an established international school community without relocating far from their workplace or home.
To support families commuting from the Bonn area, the school provides shuttle transportation between Bonn and the CIS campus. This service helps ensure that students can travel to school safely and reliably each day while reducing the logistical burden on parents.
Choosing the right school during a period of transition is an important decision for every family.
The admissions team at Cologne International School is available to answer questions, provide guidance, and support families as they explore the possibility of joining the CIS community.
